For today’s recipe I am posting a cake recipe, because you have to have cake with a celebration. This cake, however, is a little different than your usual cake. It’s a recipe for sopapilla cheesecake I got from Tina at Mommy’s Kitchen.

Tina’s blog is one that I have been following since shortly after my blog began. I have heard of similar recipes but never tried it until seeing Tina’s recipe. Of course this recipe includes one of my favorite ingredients, crescent roll dough. I’m telling you, you can make anything with a roll of that stuff and anything made with it is gonna be fabulous!

Now Tina served this dish as a dessert, but I used it for a breakfast. I figured that dough, cream cheese, butter, cinnamon, and sugar where basically cinnamon roll ingredients so why not make it for breakfast. It was a big hit with the whole family! So whether you want to eat this for breakfast or dessert, your mouth will definitely thank you! This recipe is also very easy to half, just make it in and 8 x 8 inch dish!

Now, tomorrow is my actual blogoversary, but I’m doing my post for it today. It’s hard to believe it has been one whole year since I started this blog. Today’s post makes 303 total posts since I began. I am so grateful to Melanie at My Kitchen Cafe, she’s the one who inspired me to give this thing a try for myself. At one point, I was doing posts 7 days a week, I have since reduced that down to 6 days. I figure, everyone deserves a day off.

Well with my blogoversary celebration, I have a giveaway. I have 4 bracelets that I will be giving away, check out the pictures below. I use to have a bead business and learned how to make my own beaded bracelets, so these are all handmade by me.

In order to enter in the giveaway, you must post a comment on today’s post with one of the following: If you are a regular follower of Real Mom Kitchen post what recipe has been your favorite that you have made from my site or if you are new to Real Mom Kitchen post about what brought you here (the site and recipe) . You must post by Sunday April 19th at midnight to be entered in the drawing. I will post the winner on Tuesday April 21st so check back to see if you are the winner.

Sopapilla Cheesecake

  • Author: Laura

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tubes Pillsbury crescent roll dough
  • 2 (8oz) pkgs cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup real butter not margarine

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray. Unroll and press 1 can crescent rolls into the bottom of your baking dish press the seams together.
  2. In a separate bowl blend the cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp vanilla (Tina used a tsp and a half, because she loves vanilla extract. I think it would be fun to try other extracts like almond extract) spread over top of dough.
  3. Unroll the second can of crescent rolls and place on top of the cream cheese mixture pressing seams together again.
  4. Melt butter and pour over top layer of crescents. Mix the reaming 1/2 cup of sugar & cinnamon together. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the top. If you don’t think that’s enough cinnamon sugar on top add more its really up to you there’s no rules on this part of the recipe.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until bubbly and bottom crust is slightly brown. Cool, slice and enjoy!

I made this for Christmas Brunch. I added a dollop of sour cream to the mix and used a brown sugar/cane sugar/cinnamon sprinkle both inside and out. Delicious!!

[…] Sopapilla Cheesecake ~ A friend of mine made this recently and I fell in love with it.  Cheesecake is my absolute fave dessert anyway but paired with cinnamon and crescent rolls it’s to die for.  Definitely NOT something I can make often, especially if I want to lose weight this year.  But it’s a great treat and really doesn’t take much time at all.  In fact, you don’t even have to wait for it to cool… it was good to me both warm and cold! * Quickness ~~ It comes together very quickly as long as you remember to let the cream cheese sit out for a while before you want to make this dessert.  The longest (and hardest) part is waiting on it to come out of the oven.  It smells so good! * Easiness ~~ It was a piece of cake (cheesecake, that is! :)) to make.  Pillsbury even make crescent roll dough that is seamless which would make it even easier. * Tastiness ~~ Oh… so, so tasty.  Probably too tasty… * Child friendliness ~~ Lots of refined sugars which would probably leave your child on a sugar high.  I personally didn’t give my child any (kind of hypocritical of me, I know) but I’m sure it would be a favorite. My family loves this. Even my finicky parents request it and rave when I make it. I’m kind of a freak for Greek yogurt, so I use that instead of cream cheese and it works beautifully. You can use the un seemed dough for this too, but I love the perfect portion triangles you get from the crescent rolls!

A friend made these and had me try one. It is AWESOME. I have to say, though, that it reminds me more of creme broulee than cheesecake, but that’s OK because I adore creme broulee, but do not adore making it. Thanks for this – we’re more Pinterest fans from MO. 🙂

I love a pancake recipe & a french bread receipt that you listed a few months ago and we have tried a few others. I haven't been disappointed yet. Hubby and kids are delighted that I'm getting some new recipes.

Congratulations on your anniversary. I check your blog at least daily if not more!

I found your blog by googling a recipe for hawaiian haystacks. I couldn’t believe DH had never had them, even though they were new to me recently. I just didn’t know how to make the sauce. After a few searches yours was one tha I actually had all the ingredients for. I started looking through the other posts and loved them all. I’ve also tried the cheese biscuits and loved them!

Congratulations on your blog-versary! Your bracelets are beautiful.

I got raves but had to credit ‘real mom’. I would love to wear that lovely green bracelet next time I serve up a batch to my family 😉

Hiya Laura,
I found you through PYP. I try to catch up with your posts every few days or so. I think I have only made one recipe from your blog so far and that was a pasta salad recipe (don’t recall the exact name). Recently I came across a meatball sub recipe containing Ginger ale on Norah’s blog that I want to try (just got the hogie buns last night). I think this recipe came from you. 🙂

The bracelets are beautiful. Normally, I’m not much for wearing jewelry, but who doesn’t like to win sometimes? But with 3 daughters the prize wouldn’t go to waste. (I really like the green one).

Oh, another reason I like to follow your blog is because you live in the town I grew up in. I hope for mention of something I remember from when I lived there…it’s really changed though.

Thanks

Absolutely, without a doubt, no questions asked….your mandarin chicken (that tastes like I got take out from Panda Express) was the best recipe I have gotten from here. My husband and I drool over Panda Express and we both were SO IMPRESSED!!! Not to mention, it is easy and TONS healthier than the actual Panda Express Mandarin chicken.

I found your blog just through my google reader suggestions and I use it (and refer to it) often!

Thank you so much for your great recipes and congrats on your blogoversary!!! 🙂

(This is flybybry’s wife, just so you know who’s really talking :). I was emailed a link to your blog by a friend who loves your recipes. There have been several recipes that I’ve loved! Most recently was the soup bowl/potato soup recipe. Yum! I’m definitely going to try the sopapilla one, maybe tonight!
Thanks for all you do, and congrats on your blogoversary!

I found your site through PYP. My favorite recipe is the chicken nachos. I also really liked the taco soup (I think that was the right recipe….) that had a packet of Ranch added to it. It turned out great. Thanks for the fun blog!

congratulations on a year!

I don’t recall how I found you but I’ve always enjoyed trying new recipes. I’ve valued your blog since the first day I stumbled on to it!

I’m currently waiting to get my chicken from Costco so I can make your Sesame Chicken or Orange Chicken! They sound so yummy!

I love the idea of a give away on your blogoversary!

Congrats on your anniversary! I am a semi recent follower of your blog. I started about 6 weeks ago. My favorite recipe would have to be the eclairs you posted recently. I just happened to be on an eclair spree and wanted to try a lot of different recipes for them.

Yay! What a fun way to celebrate!! I have tried at least 10 of your recipes since adding your to my google reader a few months ago, but the one I have used the most (and shared with friends) is the sugar cookie bars. I went through a phase where I added 5 or 6 recipe blogs to my google reader but yours is my favorite (and I’m not just saying that!) Keep up the good work; I get so many great ideas from you.

I’ve actually used a couple of your recipes, and love reading your blog. I used the streusel from your Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins, and I also made your Zucchini Cake. Both were delicious!

I found you on PYP probably 9 months ago and have checked your blog everyday since! One of my favorite recipes from your blog was the white chicken chili. I’ve made it pretty often and took it to a relief society get together and everyone asked for the recipe! I’ve made lots of the recipes on the blog, but that one is by far my fave!
