Real Mom Kitchen is an amazing food blog authored by Laura Powell. It began in April of 2008, shortly after her husband lost his job, Laura decided to start a food blog to channel her creative energy and give her a distraction from the stresses in her life. Little did she know that this hobby would turn into a way to help contribute to the family finances.
Realmomkitchen.com is where Laura is able to share her passion for cooking and food that was fostered by her mother from the time she was a young girl. She shares her experiences in the kitchen, delicious family friendly recipes that any busy mom or dad can make, and photographs of each recipe that will make you want to come back for more. Real Mom Kitchen focuses on recipes that have regular ingredients most people keep stocked in their pantry. The site includes recipes from desserts to main dishes that are sure to please.
Laura has been a busy mom herself with her 3 children that are now ages 23, 20, and 16. Not only is it hard to be a mom, but all of Laura’s children who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Her 23 and 20 year old son has ADHD and her 16 year old daughter has autism, ADHD, along with a genetic disorder called Turner Syndrome. Her two boys are both married now and have left the nest. Her daughter isn’t thrilled about being the only one left now with mom and dad!
Real Mom Kitchen is a food blog site that grew to over 1 million page loads a month. In 2008, RMK had 68,026 page loads and grew to over 1.4 million page loads in 2009. You will find pictures from RMK shared on sites such as tastespotting.com, foodgawker.com, and of course pinterest.com. Laura’s site is also featured on sites such as Hostess with the Mostess, Refrigerator Soup, and the Huffington Post.
She has been featured in Taste of Home magazine, The Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, and has appeared on KUTV News, KSL News, Studio 5, Good Things Utah, and Fresh Living, to name a few. She was named the Ultimate Swanson Football Champion 2011 for a recipe she developed for the contest. Laura has been a correspondant for Country Crock and member of Bush’s Team Bean. She has done recipe development for brands such as Flatout, Duncan Hines, Eggo, and Old El Paso.
In August of 2011, Laura published her first cookbook “Real Mom Kitchen” and released the second edition of the book in Fall 2013. In Fall 2013, she also released a cookbooklet titled Warm Up Your Winter: holiday hot chocolate and cider recipes. In fall 2014, she released another cookbooklet containing holiday recipes titled Christmas Desserts: Sweets of the Season. All books can be found on Amazon.com.
