Fresh Peaches and Whipped Cream

There are still a few weeks left for peaches here in Utah. My daughter-in-law picked up a box for me, and I’ve been having fun trying out recipes. With such a bounty of sweet, juicy fruit, I’ve been busy experimenting with different recipes. This week, I’m excited to share some of my favorite peach creations, starting with the ever-classic combination of Fresh Peaches and Whipped Cream.

While peaches and cream are a traditional pairing, this recipe elevates it to the next level by macerating the peaches with honey and lemon juice. Adding a bit of sweetness to the fresh peaches releases their natural juices, creating a beautifully sweet syrup after about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, you can whip up a batch of sweetened fresh whipped cream to layer with the peaches, turning this simple dessert into a parfait-style treat. The combination of sweet, syrupy peaches and fluffy whipped cream makes for a dessert that’s fresh, delicious, and perfect for enjoying the last of the peach season.

Oh, and my secret ingredient for the whipped cream is a little bit of almond extract. The taste pairs so well with the peaches. This really is the perfect no-bake dessert!

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the sliced peaches with honey and lemon juice. Gently toss to coat the peaches, then let them macerate for about 30 minutes. This will allow the peaches to release their natural juices and create a sweet syrup.

While the peaches are macerating, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and cornstarch, continuing to whip until well combined. Finally, mix in 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract for a subtle nutty flavor.

In small dessert glasses or dishes, layer about 4-6 slices of peaches at the bottom of each glass. Pipe or spoon a generous layer of whipped cream over the peaches.

Add another layer of peaches on top of the whipped cream, saving 4 peach slices for garnish. Pipe the remaining whipped cream over the second layer of peaches and top each glass with a reserved peach slice.

Serve the peach and cream parfaits immediately for best results, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. This recipe serves 4 and is the perfect way to highlight fresh, juicy peaches with rich whipped cream!

How far in advance can I make this dessert?
You can prepare the whipped cream and slice the peaches up to a few hours in advance. Store them separately in the refrigerator. Assemble the dessert just before serving to keep the peaches from making the whipped cream too soft.

Can I make this dairy-free?
Yes, you can make this recipe dairy-free by substituting the heavy cream with coconut cream or a store-bought dairy-free whipped topping. Simply whip the coconut cream with powdered sugar and vanilla for a light, fluffy alternative.

How do I prevent the peaches from turning brown?
The lemon juice in this recipe helps prevent the peaches from browning. Make sure to coat the peaches well with lemon juice during the macerating step to preserve their color and freshness.

Can I add other flavors to the whipped cream?
Yes! You can customize the whipped cream by adding vanilla extract instead of almond extract. You can even add a bit of ground cinnamon for extra flavor. These additions will complement the peaches beautifully.

What other fruits can I use with this recipe?
This recipe is very versatile! You can substitute peaches with other stone fruits like nectarines or apricots or even try berries like strawberries or raspberries for a different twist.
