Begin by preheating your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This ensures it’s ready to cook the waffles as soon as the batter is prepared.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together until well combined. This step helps evenly distribute the leavening agents, ensuring your waffles rise properly.

In a microwave-safe container, warm the milk by microwaving it for about 1 minute or until it is slightly warm to the touch. You can also heat the milk on the stovetop if you prefer. Warming the milk helps to incorporate it with the other ingredients better.

In a separate small bowl, whisk the eggs until well beaten. Slowly add the warm milk to the eggs, whisking constantly to temper the eggs and prevent them from cooking. Once combined, stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract until everything is well blended.

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Whisk the mixture together until just blended. Be careful not to overmix the batter, as this can make the waffles tough instead of light and fluffy.

Once your waffle iron is preheated, lightly grease it if needed. Pour the waffle batter onto the waffle iron, using the amount recommended by the manufacturer. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp, usually for a few minutes, depending on your waffle iron.

Serve the waffles immediately while they’re hot and crispy. Enjoy them with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar. These homemade waffles are perfect for a delicious breakfast or brunch!

What type of flour works best for this recipe?
All-purpose flour is typically used for making waffles, providing a good balance of structure and tenderness. However, you can also experiment with whole wheat flour for a heartier waffle or a gluten-free flour blend if you need a gluten-free option.

How do I make the waffles extra crispy?
To make your waffles extra crispy, make sure your waffle iron is thoroughly preheated, and the batter isn’t too thin. You can also leave the waffles in the waffle iron for a bit longer than usual, just until they’re golden brown and have a crisp exterior.

Can I add mix-ins like chocolate chips or berries to the batter?
Yes, you can add mix-ins like chocolate chips, blueberries, or chopped nuts directly to the batter before cooking. Just be mindful that these additions may affect the cooking time slightly, so keep an eye on your waffles as they cook.

Can I substitute the butter with a different fat?
Yes, you can substitute the melted butter with an equal amount of vegetable oil or coconut oil. While butter adds a rich flavor, other fats can work just as well if you prefer or need a dairy-free option.

How do I prevent the waffles from sticking to the waffle iron?
Make sure your waffle iron is well-preheated and lightly greased if necessary. Some nonstick waffle irons don’t require additional greasing, but if your waffles are sticking, try brushing the iron with a bit of oil or melted butter before adding the batter.
