A store-bought rotisserie chicken is an excellent option for this recipe, offering convenience and flavor without any extra effort. How to Make Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Tacos
Combine the shredded chicken, refried beans, sour cream, salsa, taco seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a skillet over medium heat. Stir everything together and cook until the mixture is warmed through. Once heated, set the filling aside.
Place a tortilla on a flat surface, such as a cutting board. Spoon approximately 1/4 cup of the filling onto one side of the tortilla. Sprinkle some shredded cheese over the filling. Fold the tortilla in half to close it and set it aside. Repeat this process with the remaining tortillas until all tacos are assembled.
Lightly brush the outside of each folded tortilla with a thin layer of oil or spray them with cooking spray. If your model requires preheating, preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Arrange the tacos in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Cook the tacos for 4 minutes, then carefully flip them over and cook for an additional 4 minutes, or until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.
Serve the tacos immediately while they’re hot and crispy. Pair them with your favorite toppings like guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, or fresh cilantro for an extra burst of flavor. Enjoy your quick and easy air fryer chicken tacos!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any type of tortilla for these air fryer tacos?
Yes, you can use either flour or corn tortillas for this recipe, depending on your preference. Flour tortillas tend to get crispier in the air fryer, while corn tortillas offer a more traditional taco flavor. If using corn tortillas, warm tortillas slightly before filling to prevent cracking.
Can I add other ingredients to the filling?
Yes, feel free to customize the filling with other ingredients like sautéed onions, bell peppers, corn, or black beans. Just be careful not to overstuff the tortillas, as this can make it difficult to fold them and achieve even cooking.
Can I make these tacos ahead of time?
You can prepare the filling and store it in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Assemble and cook the tacos just before serving to ensure they’re crispy and fresh.
What should I do if my air fryer isn’t large enough to cook all the tacos at once?
If your air fryer has a smaller capacity, cook the tacos in batches. Keep the cooked tacos warm in a low-temperature oven (around 200°F or 90°C) while you finish air frying the remaining batches.
Can I freeze the cooked tacos?
Yes, you can freeze cooked tacos. Allow them to cool completely, then wrap each taco individually in foil or plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag. To reheat, place the frozen tacos in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes or until heated through and crispy.
