These Special K treats are a lifesaver for busy parents! They’re incredibly quick and easy to whip up, making them the perfect after-school snack for my kids. I’ve been making them for years, ever since a friend shared the recipe with me. They’re a fantastic alternative to the usual sugary snacks, and my kids absolutely love them.
The flavor is reminiscent of a classic rice krispies treats, but with a delicious caramel twist that takes them to a whole new level of yum. Seriously, these are so good, it’s hard to resist sneaking a few myself! They’re chewy, sweet, and satisfying – a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

I am also entering this recipe for The Ultimate Super Bowl Party Recipe Smack Down contest on Recipe Girl. That’s your super bowl dessert. I am also entering the recipes that I have on here for Crock Pot Southwestern Chicken Nachos and Slow Cooker Beef Fajitas. Now are you ready for some football? Personally I can do without the football, but I love the food!
Ingredients for Special K Treats
- MARGARINE (I USE BUTTER)
- SUGAR
- BROWN SUGAR
- MINIATURE MARSHMALLOWS
- SPECIAL K CEREAL (CAN ALSO USE CORNFLAKES)
Instructions for Special K Treats
Grab a large saucepan and combine your butter, sugar, brown sugar, and marshmallows. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir everything together until the mixture melts and then comes to a rolling boil.
Once it’s boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it boil for 3 minutes, making sure to stir constantly so it doesn’t stick or burn. After 3 minutes, remove the pan from the heat.
Gently fold in your Special K cereal. Be careful not to crush the cereal too much! Finally, place the mixture by the spoonful onto sheets of wax paper. Let the treats cool completely.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the treats last?
Stored in an airtight container at room temperature, these treats should last for several days, typically up to a week. However, they are usually best consumed within the first few days for optimal freshness and texture.
Can I add other ingredients?
Absolutely! Feel free to get creative. Some popular additions include mini marshmallows (added after removing from heat), chocolate chips, chopped nuts, sprinkles, or even dried fruit.
Do I have to use wax paper?
Wax paper is recommended for easy removal. Parchment paper would also work. You could try a lightly greased baking sheet, but the treats might be harder to remove cleanly.
What kind of cereal should I use?
The recipe calls for Special K cereal, but you can experiment with other similar cereals like corn flakes or even a rice puff cereal for a variation. Just keep in mind that the texture and taste will be slightly different.
