When doing Weight Watchers, I came across this recipe for Montreal Peppered Steak. Now, this is my family’s favorite steak marinate and is in my tried-and-true file. This uses the Montreal steak seasoning for the flavor.

My favorite steak to use for this is the petite sirloin. I also like to buy the thin-sliced, so the marinate really soaks in.

Plus, the steaks cook fast on the grill. I also let this steak marinate all day in this recipe. This peppered steak is so delicious!

This simple marinade consists of three ingredients. However, that Montreal steak spice mix has a good combination of spices. These steaks pack a lot of flavor, and this is one of my favorite ways to grill steak.

OLIVE OIL – Using olive oil in a steak marinade has several benefits. The fat in the marinade helps flavors soak into the meat better, making it tastier. Olive oil also keeps the steak moist and tender during cooking by coating the surface. Additionally, it can contribute a subtle flavor of its own, complementing the natural taste of the steak.

SOY SAUCE—Soy sauce enhances the flavor of a steak marinade by adding a delicious umami taste, making the meat taste even better. Soy sauce also contains salts and enzymes that help break down proteins, making the steak more tender. When cooked, it makes a tasty crust on the steak, enhancing the flavor and look of the meat.

MCCORMICK® GRILL MATES® MONTREAL STEAK SEASONING—This spice blend includes coarse salt, garlic, paprika, and coarsely ground black pepper. This signature blend adds a bold taste and crave-able flavor to steaks and other meats. It’s restaurant-quality flavor at home.

BONELESS BEEF SIRLOIN OR NEW YORK STRIP STEAKS – Boneless beef sirloin or New York strip steaks are great for marinating and grilling because they have good flavor and texture. These cuts are lean yet have enough marbling to keep the steak juicy and flavorful when cooked. These steaks are great for grilling because they soak up marinades quickly and are tender enough to chew without being tough. The thickness of these cuts also allows for a good sear on the outside while keeping the inside cooked to the desired doneness.

To make this tasty marinade, mix oil, soy sauce, and Montreal Steak Seasoning in a small bowl. Place your steak in a large resealable plastic bag or a glass dish, pour in the marinade, and ensure the steak is well-coated.

Refrigerate and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or longer if time allows, for enhanced flavor. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard any excess marinade.

Grill the steak for 6 to 8 minutes on each side. Adjust cooking time based on the desired level of doneness. Cook longer or shorter depending on how well done you want it.
