Air Fryer Hamburgers

I love grilling hamburgers, but when grilling isn’t an option, I turn to my air fryer. Air fryer hamburgers come out incredibly juicy and full of flavor. They may not have the exact crispiness that you get from grilling, but they are still delicious, with the added bonus of being quicker and more convenient.

Air fryer hamburgers are a game-changer when you want a quick, hassle-free meal that doesn’t compromise on flavor. The air fryer can also help prevent overcooking, as it’s easier to control the cooking time compared to grilling or pan-frying. This results in a juicier patty than pan-frying in a skillet. Plus, it’s far less messy. No grease splatters on the stovetop, and cleanup is a breeze because the air fryer basket is easy to wipe down.

Once the patties are done cooking, you can add cheese and let it melt by placing the basket back in the air fryer with the unit turned off. The residual heat does the job without blowing the cheese off!

If you prefer smaller patties, you can make four instead of three, and just reduce the cook time to about 8 minutes. This flexibility makes air fryer burgers an ideal, mess-free alternative for a quick and satisfying meal.

  • 80/20 GROUND BEEF
  • HAMBURGER SEASONING (I LIKE THE MCCOMMICK OR WEBER BRAND)
  • HAMBURGER BUNS
  • CHEESE
  • DESIRED HAMBURGER TOPPINGS SUCH AS LETTUCE, PICKLES, TOMATO, ETC

To make air fryer hamburgers, start by mixing ground beef with your preferred seasonings in a large bowl. Shape the mixture into three equal-sized patties. Place the patties in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not stacked, and air fry at 350°F for 12 minutes. Be sure to flip the patties halfway through cooking for even browning. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temp reaches 160°F for safe consumption.

Once the burger patties are cooked, add a slice of cheese on top of each burger. With the air fryer turned off, place the patties back in the basket for a couple of minutes to let the residual heat melt the cheese perfectly. Serve the burgers on toasted buns with your favorite toppings and enjoy! This recipe makes 3 servings.

Can I cook frozen hamburger patties in the air fryer?
Yes, you can cook frozen hamburger patties in the air fryer. Just increase the cooking time by about 5-7 minutes, depending on the thickness of the patty. Make sure the internal temperature reaches 160°F for safety.

Do I need to flip the hamburgers in the air fryer?
Yes, flipping the burgers halfway through the cooking process ensures they cook evenly on both sides and get that golden-brown finish.

Can I use lean ground beef for air fryer hamburgers?
Yes, you can use lean ground beef, but keep in mind that leaner cuts of meat may result in drier burgers. Consider adding a little oil or butter to the mixture to keep them juicy.

How do I prevent air fryer hamburgers from shrinking?
Hamburger patties shrink during cooking due to fat loss. To minimize shrinking, form the patties slightly larger than the bun, and press a small indent in the center of each patty before cooking. This helps the patty maintain a more even shape.
