Smoked PB and J Sliders

I got this idea for smoked PB and J sliders from Richard Eats on Instagram. I honestly never would have thought to try smoking these sliders, but they were delicious!

The first thing you need for these smoked pb and j sliders is a package of King Hawaiian rolls. They really are one of the best rolls for making sliders. Now, I used my homemade strawberry freezer jam when I did this.

However, my jam tends to be on the runnier side. So it was hard to get a good layer of the jam on there. Then, when we ate them, we definitely wanted more jam. We will probably do gape jelly next time. So just be sure you have a thick jam or jelly to make these with.

Begin by preheating your smoker to 350°F. If you don’t have a smoker, you can preheat your oven to the same temperature. This ensures your sliders will cook evenly and absorb the perfect amount of smoky flavor if you’re using a smoker.

Keeping the dinner rolls intact, carefully slice them horizontally to have one solid top and bottom piece. This makes it easier to assemble the sliders and ensures that the filling stays neatly inside.

Spread a generous layer of peanut butter evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Follow this with a layer of your favorite jam or jelly. Once both layers are spread, place the roll’s top half back on top, creating a large sandwich.

Once you have the peanut butter and jam on there, you place the tops of the rolls on. This will help contain any drips and make it easy to transfer the sliders in and out of the smoker or oven. Then, you place the rolls in a 9 x 13-inch aluminum pan.

Next, you brush the tops of the rolls with some melted butter. Then, sprinkle some Cinnamon Toast Crunch cinnadust over the top. If you don’t want to buy the cinnadust, you can just mix up some cinnamon and sugar and use that.

Cook the Sliders:

Place the pan on the preheated smoker and cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the rolls to absorb the smoky flavor while the peanut butter and jelly warm up and meld together. Since it isn’t on the smoker too long, I recommend using a stronger-flavored wood.

If you don’t have a smoker, you can totally cook these in the oven at the same temperature for the same amount of time. The rolls should be golden brown and slightly crisp on top.

Once cooked, remove the pan from the smoker or oven and let it cool slightly. Slice the large sandwich into individual sliders and serve warm. These smoky, sweet, and savory sliders are perfect for any gathering or as a fun twist on a classic PB&J!

Can I make these sliders ahead of time?
Yes, you can assemble the sliders ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for a few hours before cooking. Just wait to brush on the melted butter and sprinkle the Cinnadust until right before you’re ready to cook them.

What is Cinnadust, and can I substitute it with something else?
Cinnadust is a cinnamon-sugar mixture, often with added flavorings like vanilla or caramel, that you can purchase from the store. If you don’t have Cinnadust, you can easily make your own by mixing sugar with ground cinnamon. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of vanilla extract to the melted butter before brushing it on for extra flavor.

How do I prevent the sliders from becoming too soggy?
To prevent sogginess, don’t overfill the rolls with peanut butter or jelly. Using a thicker jam or jelly also helps reduce excess moisture. Finally, serving the sliders shortly after cooking will ensure they stay warm, and the rolls remain crisp on top.

Can I add any other ingredients to these sliders?
Absolutely! For a more decadent treat, you can add thinly sliced bananas, bacon, or even a layer of chocolate spread. Just be mindful of the moisture content to avoid making the sliders too soggy.

How do I store leftovers?
Leftover sliders can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, pop them in the oven at 350°F for about 5-7 minutes to warm them up and restore some of the crispness to the rolls.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pkg King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup jam or jelly
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • cup Cinnamon Toast Crunch cinnadust or cinnamon sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat smoker to 350 degrees (or oven if not using a smoker).
  • Leaving the dinner rolls intact, slice them open so that you have one solid top and bottom. Spread the peanut butter over the bottom half followed by the jam/jelly. Place the top half of the rolls on top of the peanut butter and jelly.
  • Place the rolls in a aluminum pan that is approximately 9×13 inches. Brush the tops of the rolls with the melted butter. Then sprinkle with the cinnadust.
  • Place on the preheated smoker for about 15-20 minutes. If using an oven cook for the same amount of time. Cut into individual sliders and serve.
