These Easy Sheet Pan Breadsticks are the ultimate sidekick for any cozy meal. They’re perfect for dipping into a warm bowl of soup or soaking up every last bit of sauce on your plate. When I serve them with the beef stew recipe I shared on Tuesday, I always find myself using them to wipe my bowl clean—these breadsticks are just that good.

The dough comes together in minutes and gets pressed right into a butter‑coated sheet pan, which gives the bottoms that irresistible golden crust. Once the dough is in place, grab a pizza cutter and slice it lengthwise down the center, then cut across to form perfectly sized breadsticks. After that, you’ll drizzle melted butter over the top and finish with a generous sprinkle of the seasoning mix.

The seasoning blend is a simple but delicious combination of Parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning. My husband absolutely loved it and said the seasoning is what makes these breadsticks his new favorite. It adds just the right amount of savory flavor and makes every bite completely irresistible.

All that’s left to do now is give the breadsticks a little time to rise. They only need about 20 minutes, just enough for the dough to puff up slightly and get light and airy before baking. Once they go into the oven, they bake in roughly the same amount of time—just long enough to turn golden, buttery, and perfectly soft. In no time at all, you’ll have a pan of warm, irresistible breadsticks ready to enjoy.

Start by adding the warm water, sugar, and yeast to the bowl of a stand mixer. Let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy and bubbly on top—this tells you the yeast is activated and ready to go.

Add the flour and salt to the bowl, then use the dough hook attachment to mix until the dough comes together in a loose, soft ball. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 30–45 minutes. If you want to speed things up, preheat your oven to 170°F, turn it off, and place the covered bowl inside for 15–20 minutes to rise more quickly.

Pour half of the melted butter onto a sheet pan and spread it evenly to coat the entire bottom. Take the risen dough and gently flatten it into a rectangle with your hands. Transfer it to the prepared pan and continue pressing it outward with your fingertips until it reaches the edges of the pan. A rolling pin can help if you prefer a more even thickness.

Drizzle the rest of the melted butter over the top of the dough and brush to spread evenly. Using a pizza cutter, slice the dough in half lengthwise, then cut across to form evenly sized breadsticks.

In a small bowl, stir together the Parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning. Sprinkle this savory mixture evenly over the dough. Cover the pan and let the breadsticks rise for another 15–20 minutes, or until the dough looks puffy and reaches about 1 inch in thickness. While they rise, preheat your oven to 350°F.

Bake the breadsticks for 18–20 minutes, or until the edges turn lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Do I need a stand mixer to make the dough?
No – you can absolutely mix and knead the dough by hand. A stand mixer just makes the process quicker and easier.

Can I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast?
Yes! Instant yeast works perfectly. You can skip the proofing step and mix it right in with the dry ingredients.

How do I know when the dough has risen enough?
The dough should look noticeably puffy and roughly doubled in size. During the second rise in the pan, it should reach about 1 inch thick.

Can I use a different size sheet pan?
A standard half‑sheet pan works best. If your pan is smaller, the breadsticks will be thicker and may need an extra minute or two in the oven.

Can I make these breadsticks ahead of time?
Yes! You can prepare the dough, press it into the pan, and refrigerate it (covered) for up to 24 hours. Let it come to room temperature and rise before baking.

Can I freeze the baked breadsticks?
Definitely, once cooled, freeze them in an airtight container or bag for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 300°F until warm.

Can I change the seasoning?
Of course! The Parmesan‑garlic‑Italian blend is delicious, but you can swap in ranch seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, salad supreme seasoning, or even cinnamon sugar for a sweet version.

Why do I need to cut the dough before baking?
Cutting the dough first helps the breadsticks bake evenly and makes them easy to pull apart after baking.

How do I keep the breadsticks soft?
Let them cool slightly, then cover them with a clean kitchen towel. This traps steam and keeps them pillowy and tender.
