How to Make Big Mac Smashburger Tacos
Start by dividing 1 pound or ground beef into 8 equal portions and roll into balls. Then you need 8 small flour tortillas. Take a ball of the ground beef and smash it onto a flour tortilla shell. You want to smash that beef on there so that it pretty much covers the tortilla shell in a thin layer. Sprinkle with a little burger seasoning. If you don’t have any seasoning, good old salt and pepper will work.

Once you’ve prepared your beef patties, you’ll place the tortilla beef-side down in a hot skillet or on a griddle. I recommend keeping the heat at medium to ensure the burger patty browns nicely without burning. Let it cook for about 1-2 minutes until the beef achieves a crispy, golden-brown exterior. Then, flip the tortilla and immediately place a slice of cheese on the beef side. Let it cook for another minute or two until the tortilla is golden and the cheese melts, giving the taco that perfect gooey texture.
To assemble, top the taco with a few hamburger chips, a generous sprinkle of shredded iceberg lettuce, and a drizzle of homemade special sauce. This big mac sauce is a simple yet delicious blend of light mayo, dill relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and vinegar—giving it that classic Big Mac flavor with a lighter twist. Combine all the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. This is the same burger sauce I have used in my other recipes, which are variations of the popular Big Mac.
These Big Mac Smash Tacos are a hit, offering crispy tortillas with the familiar flavors of the iconic burger. Each serving consists of two tacos, combining two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and no onions—just like the original but on a crispy tortilla instead of a sesame seed bun! These are simple, delicious, and the family loved them. I really love the crispiness of the flour tortilla with these!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef?
Absolutely! You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef if you prefer a lighter option or if you have dietary restrictions. Just make sure to season the meat well for flavor.
Can I make the smash burger tacos ahead of time?
It’s best to assemble tacos just before serving to maintain their freshness and crunchiness. However, you can prep the individual components in advance. Mix the special sauce together ahead of time and shape the ground beef. You can also shred the lettuce.
Can I add additional toppings?
This recipe includes what is traditionally found on a Big Mac. However, you can add additional favorite burger toppings like diced tomatoes or chopped bacon for extra flavor.
Can I use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas?
Yes, you can use corn tortillas, but flour tortillas are more pliable and hold up better to the “smashing” technique used in this recipe.
