Today’s recipe for crunchy-coated bacon is inspired by one I discovered over at Tidy Mom, and it has quickly become a favorite in my kitchen. I first made it for Easter breakfast, pairing it with the rich and satisfying Blueberry French Toast topped with homemade Blueberry Syrup. This unique twist on bacon was a delightful addition to the meal—a tasty, crispy surprise that wowed everyone at the table. The best part? It’s incredibly simple to prepare, making it perfect for bacon lovers.

To me, this recipe transforms bacon into something that feels indulgent and restaurant-quality, like it’s been breaded and deep-fried to perfection. The trick lies in the light coating of flour, which gives this delicious bacon an irresistible crunch without the mess of frying on the stove top. What makes this method even better is that it’s all done in the oven. Oven-baked bacon creates less mess and is a more convenient way to achieve the ultimate crispy bacon.

For the best results, I highly recommend using thick-cut bacon. It stands up beautifully to the flour coating and oven baking, yielding a perfect balance of crunch and juiciness. If you’re using thinner strips of bacon, no problem. Just keep a close eye on them as they bake, and reduce the cooking time slightly to avoid overcooking. No one wants burnt bacon, even if it’s coated with a delicious crunch! Whether you’re serving it for brunch or as a stand-alone snack, this recipe for the perfect bacon is sure to become a favorite.

  • THICK SLICED BACON
  • FLOUR

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This temperature ensures your bacon cooks evenly without becoming too crispy or burnt.

Prepare your baking sheet. Line a large, edged sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Pro Tip: Aluminum foil makes cleanup a breeze!

Coat your bacon. Lightly dredge each of the bacon slices in flour, ensuring to coat it evenly. Shake off any excess flour to prevent clumps.

Arrange the bacon. Place the flour-coated bacon strips on the prepared rimmed baking sheet in a single layer. Avoid overlapping the strips—this helps them cook evenly and crisp up beautifully.

Bake your bacon. Place the sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Start checking for doneness at the 20-minute mark, as cooking times may vary. Your bacon should be golden brown and crunchy, but not burnt.

Handle with care. Once the bacon is done, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven. The bacon will be hot, so take precautions to avoid burns. Remove from the baking sheet with tongs on a paper-towel-lined plate. This will help drain any excess bacon grease.

Can I use gluten-free flour?
Absolutely! You can substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version of this recipe. Just ensure the gluten-free flour you choose has a neutral flavor to maintain the recipe’s taste.

What type of bacon works best for this recipe?
Thicker cuts of bacon work great because they hold up well under the flour coating and baking process. However, you can use regular-cut bacon for a lighter crunch.

How do I keep the bacon from sticking to the baking sheet?
Using parchment paper or aluminum foil as a liner should prevent sticking. For extra assurance, you can lightly spray the foil with non-stick cooking spray.

Can I make this in advance?
Yes! You can make the bacon a few hours ahead of serving. Store it at room temperature in an airtight container and reheat in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes to regain its crispiness.

Why did my bacon turn out too soft or soggy?
This may happen if the bacon overlaps on the baking sheet or if there’s too much moisture. Make sure to place bacon in a single layer and the oven is properly preheated.

Can I add spices or seasonings to the flour coating? Absolutely! Feel free to mix in spices like paprika, black pepper, or garlic powder with the flour to customize the flavor of your crunch-coated bacon.
