If you’re on the hunt for quick and easy snacks for after-school, I’ve got a fun one to share—Taco Crackers! This recipe is part of a collection I created for Tablespoon.com, and it’s a total win with kids. With just three simple ingredients, these savory little bites come together in minutes and are so easy that the kids can make this tasty snack on their own.

The inspiration came from a popular ranch-flavored cracker recipe I’ve made for my family before, but this time I decided to switch things up with taco seasoning—and wow, did it deliver! My kids are big fans of Mexican flavors, and they loved the zesty twist. The seasoning adds just the right amount of flavor without being too spicy, making it perfect for younger taste buds.

  • CANOLA OIL OR VEGETABLE OIL
  • TACO SEASONING
  • OYSTER CRACKERS

Mix the Seasoning – In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the canola oil and taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade). Whisk until smooth and well blended.

Coat the Crackers – Place the oyster crackers into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the oil and seasoning mixture over the crackers. Gently toss to coat. Keep mixing until all the crackers are evenly covered.

Rest & Absorb – Spread the coated crackers out in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Let them sit at room temperature for about 2 hours, allowing the crackers to absorb the oil and seasoning. This step helps them crisp up without baking.

Store & Serve – Once dry to the touch, transfer the crackers to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to 1 week—if they last that long!

What kind of crackers work best for this easy snack recipe?
Oyster crackers are the classic choice, but mini saltine crackers, cheese crackers, or even pretzels can work. Just make sure they’re bite-sized and sturdy enough to hold the seasoning.

How spicy are these crackers?
That depends on your taco seasoning! Most blends are mild to medium, but you can dial up the heat by adding cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.

How long does this flavorful snack stay fresh?
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If they lose their crunch, pop them in a 250°F oven for 5 minutes to revive them.

Can I use a different oil?
Canola oil is neutral and works well, but avocado oil adds richness. Avoid olive oil—it can overpower the taco flavor.

Can I make these ahead for a party?
Definitely! They’re a great make-ahead snack—just store them airtight and they’ll stay crisp and flavorful for several days.
