Did you know that October is National Pizza Month?  National Pizza month was first observed in the US in 1984.  The pizza month was designated by the founder of Pizza Today Magazine, because that is the month her magazine debuted.

While growing up, my family always had pizza on the weekend.  The first time I drove a car by myself when I turned 16 was to pick up pizza for my family.  My family isn’t the only pizza fans out there.  There are over 63,000 pizzerias across the country and 94 % of Americans eat pizza once a month, according to pizza.com.

Once I started my own family and my kids were starting elementary school, I decided to continue the tradition I had growing up and have pizza once a week on the weekend.  A lot of the time we pick it up from somewhere it is my night off from cooking.  However, we still love to make pizza at home when we can.  It is the perfect way to get the entire family involved in the kitchen.

You can start off with shopping for the pizza ingredients together.

Let everyone make their own list of what they want for their own pizza.  Let the kids help roll the dough and encourage creativity.  Halloween is a great time for this.  You can have them make monster faces using the toppings.

Add a theme to you pizza night.  Pretend you are on the streets of Italy or that you are running your own pizza restaurant.  Get decorations and set the take for your theme.

Make cooking the pizza an educational experience.  Share the story of a family recipe.  It is also a great time to teach kitchen safety along with the proper measuring and use of kitchen tools.

Did you know that Hormel has a line of pizza topping including pepperoni, Italian sausage crumbles or beef crumbles.  They help make pizza night even easier.  Here is a video with some pizza ideas using Hormel products.

I also I a good amount of pizza recipes to make too.  Here they are.

Disclosure: I am an Extended Family Blogger for Hormel Foods but as always my opinions are my own.
