My grandma’s sweet and sour meatballs made an appearance every year at our family Christmas party.
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without my grandma’s sweet and sour meatballs. It was a part of her annual menu for her Christmas party she would host for our family. I have also shared her party punch recipe before that was also a part of the menu. We all knew what food grandma’s party would include at it was highly anticipated by all.
It really only takes 6 ingredients to make these delicious morsels from scratch. Plus, they are ready in under 1 hour. The meatballs themselves are made from just 3 ingredients. It includes ground beef, grated onion, and an egg. You also add in some salt and pepper. However, I consider those free ingredients. Just combine together and shape into meatballs.
Next is the sauce. In a large sauce pan, you combine chili sauce, lemon juice, and grape jelly. You bring this all to a boil and then add in the uncooked meatballs. This is what I love about this recipe there is no need to brown or cook the meatballs before adding them to the sauce. These babies cook in the sauce. It’s what makes them so flavorful. Just simmer in the sauce for about 30 minutes until they are fully cooked.
