Homemade Oreo Cookies – Flashback Friday

by Laura

To finish off our week of cake mix recipes, I am flashing back to an oldie but a goodie. These homemade Oreo cookies are one of my husbands favorite cookies. When I made these the other day to get a new photo, my husband was bummed because I only made half a recipe. I did this for my own safety because I also love them.

This is another recipe you could do some variations on. You can add food coloring and flavoring to the frosting to change it up. Like for Christmastime, I love to change the frosting by adding red food coloring or green food coloring with mint or peppermin extract. You can also use a yellow cake mix to make homemade golden oreos.

One note, if you are just doing the traditional version and want the frosting to be a true white color, be sure to use clear vanilla extract. The frosting is white with regular vanilla extract but not that true bright white like in the store bought Oreos. It is more of an off white color. I did use the regular vanilla extract when I made these homemade Oreo Cookies.
