I was recently sent a couple of products to try out from Shirley J. Their products have been proven in the most demanding commercial kitchens are now for every home chef in America.  I was excited to get some of their products and try them, including Shirley J’s Beef.  Now, I have tasted them before and loved them.

I have used their universal sauce mix to make a cheesy potato soup.

Their sauce mix is so versatile you just add water to make soups, sauces, and gravies.  The soup was so thick and creamy.  The other thing was it was a breeze to put the whole thing together and I just used leftovers I had in my fridge for the soup.  The sauce mix can also be used as a substitute for canned condensed cream soup.  Here is a link to 3 recipes made with the universal sauce mix.

I gave their beef slow cooker seasoning a try on a Sunday.

It was easy to put together – mix, water, beef, slow cooker.  It was that simple.  Then I let it cook all day.  The meat was tender and full of flavor.  Shirley J’s Beef makes it’s own broth type gravy too.  I think the gravy would actually be great to dip a French dip sandwich in.  Just do the roast, put the meat on buns and dip in the gravy.  Or you could thicken the gravy for a thicker consistency and serve with mashed potatoes.  Either way the mix is great.

Shirley J’s Beef

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 beef roast, around 2 to 3 pounds (use whatever roast you like)
  • 1/3 cup (rounded) Shirley J beef slow cooker seasoning mix
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Place water and mix in slow cooker and whisk together.  Place roast in slow cooker on low for 7 to 8 hours.  (I then shredded my roast and mixed it in the gravy that was left to make it nice and moist and served it.)

I love Shirley J. Their pizza/pasta sauce mix is all we use. I used to bottle pizza sauce, no more! The bouillons are wonderful, super concentrated and MSG free. The All Purpose Mix-onion soup mix, is superb! I haven’t tried the slow cooker mixes, but I sure will now. I think I might have some downstairs………Thanks!
