If you happen to still have any Halloween candy left, here’s a recipe to use up some Snicker bars. This Candy Bar Salad recipe is one I got from Cheryl at What’s Cookin?.
This is so easy to make. You just need some apples, Cool Whip and Snickers candy bars. It uses 5 full sized candy bars but you can guesstimate and use the fun sized version too. Just cut the apples and candy bars into bite sized chunks. Then mix into the Cool Whip.
Sorry, the picture doesn’t do it justice. I’ll have to make this again when I can get a better picture for ya. It’s simple and so delicious. I would recommend Granny Smith Apples for this. It gives this salad a little tartness along with all the sweetness of the Cool whip and candy bars. I made a half recipe for my family of 5. It was the perfect amount. So a full recipe could easily serve 10.
If you aren’t going to eat it immediately like we did, you can treat the apple so they won’t go brown. Here are a few different ways you can do this.
Lemon or lime juice – Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 cup of water. Soak the apple slices for 3-5 minutes. Drain, rinse and pat dry.
Ball’s Fresh Fruit – Use this or another ascorbic acid powder. This can usually be found in the food storage/canning section at the grocery store.
Ginger ale – Soak in ginger ale for 3-5 minutes. Drain, rinse and pat dry.
Salt water -Mix 1-2 teaspoons of salt into 1 quart of water. Soak apples for 3-5 minutes. Drain, rinse and pat dry.
