This week I will have some recipe for you that would be perfect for your Memorial Day weekend.  Hot dogs tend to be a staple at our house from Memorial Day through the summer, but regular old hot dogs with ketchup, mustard and relish can get old.  That is where today’s recipe for bacon wrapped dogs comes in.

These hot dogs get a filling of sharp cheddar cheese and wrapped in bacon, but it doesn’t end there.  The buns get a brushing with melted butter and set on the grill for a nice crispness.  I love the contrast of the soft outer bun followed but the crisp, butter, crunchy grilled inside.

The trick to having these dogs wrapped in bacon is using the fully cooked bacon you can get at the store.  I know you can get it at Costco for a good price.  Now you could just try to cook regular bacon and use it. However, you need to make sure you cook the bacon slightly under. You need to be able to wrap it around the hot dog.

I could not let you use the regular old toppings here. You need a sauce worthy of this jazzed up hot dog.  I gave them a good douse of J Dawg sauce.  Now, I learned about this sauce from my friend Leigh Anne over at Your Homebased Mom.  She has been to J Dawg’s joint in Provo, Utah.  I need to get there the next time I am in that neck of the woods.  Apparently it is near the BYU campus and was started by a student.  They serve their “dawgs” up with a sweet southern bbq sauce.  Well, Leigh Anne’s niece recreated the sauce. I thought it would be the perfect thing to use on these dogs.
