Fresh Strawberry Syrup

Strawberries happen to be one of the favorite ways to top waffles at our house. A lot of the time, we use fresh strawberry slices, sweetened whipped cream, and maple syrup. Well, recently I decided to try a new recipe out for strawberry syrup.

This recipe is for a cooked syrup that uses fresh strawberries. I have shared a strawberry sauce recipe before, but this recipe is different. It is cooked longer and is definitely more of a syrup consistency unlike the strawberry sauce.

All you need is some fresh strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, and vanilla. The lemon juice helps preserve that fresh flavor. It all cooks in a sauce pan for about 15 minutes. Once it cools, the syrup will thicken even more. If it ends p thicker than you want it, just add a little water to thin it to the desired consistency.

This is perfect to use on top of you favorite breakfast item such as waffles, French toast, or pancakes. It is also a great topper for desserts such as cake, pie, cheesecake, or crepes.

  1. This looks scrumptious. We usually have a big breakfast on Sundays and will have to add this one to the list.
