The other day, I had some Steak-Umm in my freezer and wanted to get creative rather than make the usual cheesesteak sandwiches. That’s when I came up with a new recipe idea, using the Steak-Umm to whip up some delicious and easy steak street tacos.
Steak-Umm works perfectly for fast and flavorful street tacos because it cooks quickly and has a tender texture. If you don’t have Steak-Umm, no worries—there are other similar brands you can use. Walmart offers a Great Value version, and I’ve also picked up a similar product at Sam’s Club, both of which work just as well in this recipe! This versatile idea takes just a few minutes to put together but delivers big on flavor.

The meat in these tacos is already packed with flavor, but what truly elevates them to the next level is the addition of cotija cheese and fresh cilantro onion salsa. The cotija cheese adds a salty, crumbly texture that contrasts beautifully with the tender meat, enhancing every bite.
Meanwhile, the cilantro onion salsa offers a fresh, zesty brightness that cuts through the richness of the meat, balancing the flavors and giving the tacos an authentic street-style feel. These toppings add layers of flavor and texture, transforming simple tacos into something truly special and unforgettable!

How to Make Easy Steak Street Tacos
In a small bowl, combine finely chopped onion, fresh cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir the mixture well, ensuring all ingredients are coated in the lime juice. Set this fresh, zesty salsa aside to let the flavors meld while you cook the meat.
In a heated skillet, add the Steak-umm slices and cook over medium heat until they are about halfway done. At this point, sprinkle in cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper into the pan. Continue cooking the meat, stirring occasionally, until it is fully browned and cooked through. The spices will infuse the meat with a smoky, bold flavor.
Once the meat is cooked, it’s time to build your street tacos. Warm your tortillas and fill each one with a generous portion of the seasoned Steak-umm. Top the meat with a sprinkle of cotija cheese for a salty, creamy bite. Finish off with a spoonful of the fresh cilantro onion salsa for a burst of freshness that balances the flavors. Serve your beef tacos immediately, and enjoy the perfect blend of savory, tangy, and fresh elements in every bite!
Frequently Asked Questions
