This Smoked Apple Crisp features tender, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery oat crumble and cooked on the smoker for a delicious hint of smoky flavor. It is an easy fall dessert that can also be baked in the oven if you don’t have a smoker. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and chopped pecans for an extra-decadent treat.
Peel and slice the apples. Add them to a large bowl and toss with the lemon juice. Add the sugar and 2 tsp ground cinnamon, then add to a 9-inch cast iron skillet.
In the same bowl you mixed the apples in, mix the topping. Add in the brown sugar, flour, quick oats, and cinnamon. Whisk together. Add in the softened butter and mix until well combined.
Spread the topping over the apples until evenly coated.
Place the crisp on the preheated 350 degree smoker and cook for 45-60 minutes. Rotate every 15-20 minutes for even cooking.
Remove from the smoker and allow to rest for 10 minutes. Serve warm and top with vanilla ice cream. Add caramel sauce and chopped pecans for even more deliciousness.
