Before we talk about today’s recipe for Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting I have just a quick FYI. I will be giving a cooking demo at the Utah Valley Women’s Expo tomorrow Friday Sept 13 at 2 pm. If you happen to be going come stop by. I would love to see you. Also, copies of my new cookbook Warm Your Winter will be available for purchase along with the new 2nd edition of Real Mom Kitchen Cookbook (it contains 10 new recipes and updated photos). Now on to the recipe.

Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is one of my husbands favorite treats. I recently decided to be a nice wife and make him a chocolate cake. However, being the foodie I am I wanted to try a new frosting recipe on the cake.

I have enjoyed a sour cream frosting on banana cupcakes, banana cake, and a zucchini cake before. So I thought I am sure a chocolate version would be equally delicious. I was right it was quite scrumptious. So next time you are in the mood for a chocolate cake give this sour cream chocolate frosting recipe a try.

Instructions

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and butter. Microwave at 20 second intervals stir after each time until smooth and well blended. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  2. Using a mixer, blend sour cream, vanilla, and salt into the cooled chocolate mixture. Then blend in powdered sugar a cup at a time until nice and blended.
  3. Makes enough to give a nice covering to the top of a 9 x 13 cake.

Would it turn out if I just used a whisk instead of an electric mixer? I don’t have a mixer, but this looks really good, I’d like to try it out.

Read #2 in the above directions carefully. It tells you right there what to do with it. 🙂
