So I love to read but as a busy mom, I don’t always have the time to sit down with a good book like the real reads book today – The Lake. There are 3 times though that I can usually find the time.
1. When I go on a trip – whether I am traveling for work or for fun, you can usually find me with a book.

2. When I am at a doctor appointment – without fail there is usually a lot of wait time at just about any doctor appt. Whether I am there for myself or with someone from my family, this is another great time to have a book.
3. When someone has surgery – wisdom teeth, tonsil, hand surgery, ear tubes – these are just some of the many procedures I have been to with time waiting for a loved one to be done with surgery and it is usually done while reading a good book.
Well, this week, my husband went in to have back surgery. He has degenerative disc disease and this was the 5th surgery he has had since he was 19.

Twelve years ago he had his back fused at L4,5 and now was having a nerve pinched at L3. So on Wednesday, they went into to decompress the disc at L3 and while they we in there they removed the hardware from when it was fused 12 years ago. I was amazed to see what was in his back for the last 12 years. It’s crazy!

The Lake – Real Reads
Well, the night before his surgery I was trying to find a book to take with me to read. I happened to come across a book titled The Lake from Annalisa Grant. It sounded interesting and the Kindle version was free! I figured it was worth a try for free.
Oh man was I glad I picked that book! I was hooked from the beginning. There was just enough intrigue with the story to draw me in.

The story is about 17 year old Layla Weston. Layla lost her parents at age 12 and moved in with her grandparents. Five years after that, she has lost both of her grandparents.
Now she’s moving from Florida to a small town in North Carolina to live with the only family she has left, an uncle (her father’s brother) and aunt that she has only met a handful of times.
The last five years of Layla’s life were spent appeasing her less than-loving grandmother who blames her for her parents death. Layla’s father was her son. Then the past 2 years Layla has been her grandfather’s caretaker consequently causing Layla to grow up too fast and loose her identity. Now she must learn how to allow herself to be the one cared for and loved.
Life takes an unexpected turn when Layla meets Will Meyer. His breathtaking good looks are enough to catch her eye, but his sincerity and passion are everything she needs to find the strength and confidence she lost — and lead her into love. However, life with Will is complicated and Layla is unsure whether or not she wants to be involved with Will.
This books is actually the first in the trilogy
Once I was hooked with this book, I actually went and got the 2 other books in this series. Troubled Waters and Safe Harbor are both available for $2.99 each for the Kindle edition. I can’t wait to get to the other 2 books and see the story unfold even more for Layla.
I also love that in the story Layla loves to cook and gets to eat some yummy sounding food at some restaurants. Kind of crazy that I notice this kind of stuff in a book. If you have a Kindle or Kindle app, you really should try this free book! If not you can always get the traditional book version for under $10!
