The Best of Me – Real Reads

Recently, I saw a movie that I somehow missed. I can’t remember what I was looking at online when I discovered The Best of Me, but I was definitely interested in it.

After looking more into what the movie was about, I discovered it was based on a book.
It happened to be a Nicolas Sparks book. I have never read his books, but I have loved the movies that have been based on his books – The Notebook, Dear John, The Lucky One, Safe Haven, etc. I can just say, they know how to cast these movies too!
Then, I decided before checking out this movie I just discovered. I wanted to read the book first. The Best of Me by Nicolas Sparks was a great read. Now, I can’t wait to see how the movie compares to the book. I will update this post once I see it!
UPDATE May 23, 2015
I did finally watch the movie. Elements of the movie are different from the book. So if you saw the movie, but have not read the book, read it! If you’ve read the book, check out the movie and notice the differences.

I must admit, the beginning of this was a little slow for me. Plus, the style of writing in this book was a little challenging for me, too. It bounces around from the perspective of different characters. It was kind of like when I read the book The Help; however, it was clear in that book which character you were reading about because it was broken down by chapters. This can change between several characters within a chapter. I tend to like books told from the perspective of 1-2 characters.
Even with these challenges, I kept going because I wanted to see where the story was going. The twists and turns that happen in the story with the 2 main characters, Amanda and Dawson, had me hooked. They fell in love in high school but were from opposite backgrounds. Amanda’s family was the wealthy Collier family in the small town of Oriental, where Dawson came from the Cole family know for nothing but trouble. However, that didn’t keep them from falling for each other.
As life in high school was nearing an end, events send Amanda and Dawson on different paths and ultimately pulling them apart. Twenty-five years later, the death of a mutual friend brings them both back to Oriental, but will it bring them back together?
After reading this book, I saw that another Nicolas Sparks book had been turned into a movie.
It actually came out yesterday – The Longest Ride. So, now I have that book for my Kindle and plan to read it before seeing the movie.
