Each year at this time of year we try to help provide a family a Thanksgiving meal along with help to provide Christmas for some children or a family in need.  We love to lend a helping hand. Over the years of my marriage, we have been in need a few times and were helped by others.  One year, my 2 boys would have not had a Christmas if it wasn’t for the giving of others.  I feel a great way to pay back  those who have helped us is by passing it along and helping others.  Giving to others is important year round, but the holidays provide the perfect opportunity to get you into the spirit of giving.

Have you heard of Hormel Foods’ “On Our Way to End Hunger” program?  

Through their program, they have commissioned surveys to uncover perceptions of hunger in America, hosted hunger summits that brought leaders from the public and private sectors together, and donated millions of dollars of products to local food banks and Feeding America.

This year, I am having my kiddos pick an Angel off the tree of our local Angel Tree program.  Then we are going to go shopping as a family to pick out items for each of their angels. I really want my kids to be involved in the whole process.

  3. We just took a bunch of food to our local soup kitchen and try to help out a family that works with my husband who has been struggling since they were in an accident and missed a lot of work and pay.

  5. A group of us from my work, volunteered with habitat for Humanity’s A Brush With Kindness to painting the exterior of an elderly couples home. They were so overcome with joy and gratefulness that tears were flowing throughout the day!
    It was very touching!

  6. Our church has a giving tree we donate for and we also give to the toys-for-tots and gently used coat boxes located within our local grocery store and police departments.

  7. As far as holiday specific charity goes, we participate in the Christmas gift trees put up in our church for families in the community.

This year my family was not able to all get together for the holidays, so we are meeting on a different date at an organization called Feed my Starving Children to package food for children overseas. We also decided not to exchange gifts this year and are instead purchasing items for a local women’s shelter.

  10. I give back by making small donations of money to each of the charities that are important to each member of my family then I give them a card telling them what Charity I have donated to in their honor
