I’m  gettin’ real with you all today.  This summer has been the craziest summer yet for me as a mom.  I have had a hard time keeping up with everything in my life. There are a few things I have let fall to the wayside in order to survive.  However, it just has not been enough.

I had the great idea of having a “kids in the kitchen” series this summer.  It has been so fun and it got me to get my kiddos involved in the kitchen while me while they have not had school.  However, I have decided to cut the recipe portion of the series short in order to help me maintain my sanity.

There will be no recipe for today, but I do have one last recipe scheduled for next week.

After that, I am done for this summer.  Next week will be a themed week and it is a good one – S’mores week.  I did one last year and have enjoyed planning and cooking for another week filled with recipes this year.  So, I will continue with the cookbook review portion of the kids in the kitchen series and hope that gives you some good resources to get your kids excited about cooking.

Lately, I have been feeling very burnt out and not wanting to cook.

I have relied heavily on pizza and hot dogs.  This is normal to have happen, even when it is something that you are passionate about.  I do what I love as my job, but everyone needs an occasional break from their job. I have had bouts like this before but this time it is lasting longer than normal.  So, I think next summer I will cut back from the usual 6 posts to 4. This will help me meet the demands I have as a mother and devoted the time needed to my children.

It’s all a matter of balance and I feel I am out of balance.  Just like your car needs to go in to the shop and get a alignment every once it a while, I am needing to realign my life.  Also, I have an upcoming project I need to get done by the end of the year.  I need to recharge my battery. So, when my kiddos are back in school I can head into my project with full force.

I am so grateful for all of you.

It is awesome that you come here to visit and see what I have to share.  I hope to help families enjoy family meal time together and find that precious time to visit and stay connected around the dinner table.  Also, I want to help make life as a mom easier for and more enjoyable for others without the stress of planning meals that their family will eat.  Thanks for letting me be able to be gettin’ real with you all.

  1. I hear you! When you share, share, share – and everyone just takes – it can get you down after a while. I don’t make money on my blog, so I don’t feel so much pressure to post. But when you depend on it for income, that can take the joy out of it. You do an awesome job – thanks for sharing!

  2. I think as “Mothers” – we are all so tired and crazy and have WAAAAY too much on our plates. We all deserve some quiet and rest. Take a break and bring us some more simple and easy recipes in the future!

  3. Laura – good luck with all you have on your plate (no pun intended!). I’m kind of at the same stage you are and I admire you for taking a step back and reanalyzing. You do such great work here and your devoted fans will follow no matter what. Good luck!

  4. I’m glad you’re taking time for you and your family, which is so important. I think a lot of (female) bloggers put too many demands on themselves in relation to the blog, and really- this is just a small part of your life. It doesn’t define you- your family is what is most important, and what will last the longest. Enjoy your toned-down summer and enjoy being with your family! Best of luck in all you need and want to get done!

  5. The heat is getting to us all. We’ve also been relying on pizza and hot dogs – and have had fried egg sandwiches way too often this summer. It happens. Best of luck!

  6. Good for you, Laura. I so appreciate the time you put into this, and look forward to checking in for new ideas. I have always thought you were an overachiever, posting 6 days a week when most food bloggers only post two or three. 🙂 But you have to do what’s best for your family, and it sounds like it’s time to scale back. Good luck with everything you have going on, and I hope you find the balance you need. Thanks for what you do!
