Dirty Diet Coke

I do have an addiction to carbonated drinks. No judgement, please! There is just something about that sweet bubbly concoction that has me hooked.

A while back, I heard about a terrific drink place called Swig (originally just located in St. George, Utah). This drink place has all kind of fun syrups to add to your drink. I had also heard about a drink called a dirty diet coke that the serve there and it’s popularity. So basically, a this drink is a diet coke with coconut syrup added in. Some people also like to add a little fresh lime too. Unfortunately, I just don’t get down that often to St. George so my first experience with a dirty diet coke was not at Swig.

Swig
My first experience with a dirty diet coke was at Cafe Zupas.

After they had been around for a bit, I discovered they had favored syrups with their soda fountain. I also discovered that those syrups included coconut. I finally realized this was my change to sample a dirty diet coke, I didn’t have to wait for Swig. When I did finally try it,  I was hooked! Now I prefer mine straight up, just diet coke and coconut syrup. I have tried it with a little fresh lime and for me, it takes away from that fabulous coconut flavor.

After trying this out at Zupas, I then discovered a local Holiday Oil gas station also had that fabulous coconut syrup to add to your drinks too! Then I decided to just purchase my own syrup to make my own. Now my favorite way to make my this drink is with the caffeine free version and sugar free coconut syrup, if possible.

Well,  I did finally get to have a dirty diet coke this year at Swig as part of a St. George trip.

I also was finally able to try one of  their famous sugar cookies. Let me tell you, the whole experience was amazing!!! I  do have a recipe for a copy cat version of their sugar cookie coming up tomorrow, so be sure to check it out.  In the meantime, try a dirty diet coke and tell me what you think! Swig has now expanded to several new location throughout Utah. See if there is one near you if you are a Utahn!

Dirty Diet Coke

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Tbsp coconut syrup (I use sugar free)
  • 1 (12 oz) can Diet Coke (I prefer caffeine free)
  • 12 fresh lime wedges, optional (I leave them out)

Instructions

  1. Place the coconut syrup in the bottom of a tall drinking glass.
  2. Fill the glass half way with ice. Pebble ice is best, but any ice works great.
  3. Then fill with diet coke. Squeeze in a lime wedge or 2 if desired (Ieave this out). Enjoy!

Not a Utahn (NY’er)but will be near St. George next week on our canyon trip. We will be driving from Zion to Las Vegas so it looks like we will be making a side trip to Swig’s.

I’ll be sure to do if you can. You’ve got to try the cookies too. Make sure they’re the sugar cookies! If you have kids and extra time you want to check out the children’s museum in St. George also.

So where do you buy your sugar free coconut syrup? And what brand is it?

I get it online from Torani. However some grocery stores do carry it. It’s usually in the coffee section.
